11 Days Trekking the Three Great Rivers area in northwest Yunnan
|

In northwest part of Yunnan province, the upper reaches of 3 of Asia's mightiest rivers -- the Yangtze, the Mekong, the Salween -- flow in parallel within a band of 55 miles, separated by high mountain ridges, coming down from Tibet highland. The drastic elevation changes, the rainy summers and the region's latitude -- at the transition from temperate to subtropical -- fostered an explosion in biodiversity: northern Yunnan is home to 10,000 plant species, including 162 species of rhododendron and 120 species of primrose.
Now, this area will soon become the largest national park in China, and is applying to be listed into World Nature Heritage.

Arrive in Kunming in the afternoon, meet at Kunming airport, then take the 19:00 flight from Kunming to Baoshan, arrive in Baoshan at 19:40, meet at Baoshan airport and transfer to the 3 star Ming He Hotel. Dinner in Baoshan. |

Drive 3 hours from Baoshan to Liuku, after lunch in Liuku, drive north along the Nu river to Gongshan. Stay in the Green Mountain Guesthouse. |

Continue drive north along the Nu river to Dimaluo village. Stay in local villger's house. |

D4 |
Start trekking up the Biluo Snow Moutain(4652 m high) which is between the Nu river and the Mekong river, you will pass a village(Baihanluo) and a catholic church. Camping or stay in local villager's house. |

Continue trekking up the mountain, you will pass a village(Layatong) and the mountain pass at 4000 m, reach the village(Diwazhachong). Camping or stay in local villager's house. |

Trekking down the mountain to Cizhong town by the side of Mekong river, finished your 3 days trekking,(total trekking distance is about 50 km), visit the 100-year-old catholic church built by a french missionery, which is also the best-preserved church in Yunnan. Stay in a local guesthouse. |

Drive north along the Mekong river for half day from Cizhong to Meili Snow Mountain(6740 m high), sightseeing at the Minyong Glacier up the mountain. Stay in a guesthouse in Minyong village. |

D8 |
Sightseeing in Yubeng village, and the Holy Waterfall, then trek down the mountain and drive to Deqin, stay in the 3 star Rainbow Grand Hotel. |

Drive from Deqin to Zhongdian, on the way, you will cross Mekong river at about 2000 m high, then climb up the White Horse Snow Mountain(5430 m high) and cross the 4200m-high mountain pass, then drive down the mountain to cross Yangtze river at about 1900 m high, then climb up again to reach Zhongdian(3200 m high). On the way, you will also visit the Dongzhulin Monastery which is a very important monastery in Kham area. Upon arriving in Zhongdian, check in the 3 star Pacific Rim Hotel. |

Sightseeing in Zhongdian, including the Songzanlin Monastery, the Tibetan market, and a Tibetan village. |

Take a morning flight from Zhongdain to Kunming, then connect your afternoon flight back home. |
